Who We Are

The NSCP is a coalition of coalitions and works to build partnerships to create thriving communities in Nevada. The ability to closely work with our communities and bring information together to create a collaborative and meaningful system is our expertise. We work together to evolve and respond to the communities we serve and work in the areas of primary substance misuse prevention by working upstream to address risk and protective factors that contribute to a wide variety of chronic health problems.

The NSCP is the subject matter expert on substance misuse prevention in the state and are ready to support your efforts through partnership today.

Workforce Development
The NSCP is passionate about building capacity and prevention infrastructure to support our communities.  We are written into SB 69 and work with local, state and federal governments to build systems that work for the people.  All communities have differing needs and the NSCP Coalitions work closely with their communities to set priorities and pursue a workforce to meet those priorities.

The NSCP provides opportunities for agencies all over Nevada to build their workforce capacity by supporting Certified Prevention Specialists, Social Workers, Community Health Workers, and Peer Support Specialists in their education and substantive community work.  We do this in partnership with the Nevada Certification Board, the various Regional Behavioral Health Boards, and the State of Nevada.

Overdose Awareness Day

The Coalitions work with their communities to offer opportunities to collectively grieve the loss of loved ones and find community level solutions to overdose deaths.  We engage in this through the robust examination of data, facilitating community awareness activities and meeting individuals right where they are with hope for a better future.  Get involved by visiting your local coalition.

Harm Reduction Initiatives

The Coalitions are dedicated to a non-judgemental and robust science-based approach to individuals who use substances.  We believe that by meeting people where they are we can create safe spaces for treatment and recovery, as well as expand community building that holds value in all individuals.  This empowering model means that everyone has a role to play in supporting their community.

ACEs/PCEs
The Coalitions are dedicated to using the public health model and working upstream to prevent substance misuse and disorder by addressing the root causes of substance misuse and other behavioral health challenges.  Adverse Childhood Experiences have a dose effect for poor mental health outcomes and we work strategicallly to reduce exposuse to ACEs, while building up resilience in our communities.

We partner with Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Food Bank, Human Trafficking Prevention Agencies, Child and Family services agencies, universities, governments, parents, the media and so many more to ensure equitable opportunities to protective factors in our state.
