NRS 453.1545 is the section of the law establishing the state’s computerized Prescription Monitoring Program. This section has substantially amended to include:

  1. Requiring Board of Pharmacy Registrants who prescribe controlled substances to also register with the PMP (SB 459 Sec. 13).
  2. Requires those registered with the PMP to query the system at least once every six months (SB 288 Sec. 2.4) .
  3. Provides for the enforcement of these provisions by the state’s occupational licensing boards (SB 114).

National Drug Control Strategy

Prescription Drug Abuse: Strategies to Stop the Epidemic

Prescription drug abuse has become a major health epidemic in the United States. Around 50 Americans die from prescription painkiller overdoses each day. Prescription painkillers are responsible for more than 16,000 deaths and 475,000 emergency department visits each year. Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP)

The Nevada Prescription Monitoring Program or PMP is a tracking system that allows prescribers and pharmacists to identify if a patient is receiving controlled substance prescriptions from multiple providers.
